SAP Analytics Cloud QRC2 2026: The Decoupled Data Panel Brings Clarity to the Experience

In QRC2 2026, SAP Analytics Cloud introduces a structural improvement that significantly enhances how users navigate and interact with data: the Decoupled Data Panel.

While not as immediately visible as drag-and-drop charting, this change addresses a long-standing friction point in the SAC experience—the tight coupling between data access, chart building, and styling.

Previously, these elements were closely intertwined. Moving between data, structure, and presentation often meant shifting contexts within the same panel, which could become cumbersome, particularly in complex stories.

This update changes that dynamic entirely.

The Data Panel is now independently accessible via a simplified right-hand toolbar, alongside the Builder and Styling panels. This separation creates a much clearer mental model for users:

  • Data is about what you’re working with

  • Builder is about how it’s structured

  • Styling is about how it looks

By isolating these concerns, SAC becomes easier to navigate and more intuitive to use.

Beyond visibility, the panel also enhances how data is introduced and managed within a story. Users are now guided through a more flexible process for adding data—whether from models, datasets, external sources, or uploaded files.

This flexibility allows data to be introduced at any point in the workflow, rather than being locked into an initial setup step.

Another key improvement is the ability to quickly navigate from the Data Panel to core tools such as the Modeler and Data Analyzer. This reduces the need to leave the story environment when deeper data work is required, creating a more seamless experience between modeling and visualization.

Taken together, these changes result in a noticeably more streamlined workflow.

Key highlights of the Decoupled Data Panel include:

  • Independent panel access

    • Quickly switch between Data, Builder, and Styling

    • Maintain context without disrupting workflow

  • Dynamic data context

    • Panel updates based on selected visualization

    • Ensures relevance and reduces user error

  • Improved data visibility

    • View all models used within the story

    • Better understanding of data relationships

  • Flexible data integration

    • Add data at any time

    • Support for multiple sources including files and datasets

  • Seamless navigation to data tools

    • Direct access to Modeler and Data Analyzer

    • Reduced friction between data preparation and reporting

From a broader perspective, this change reinforces SAP’s direction toward a more modular and user-friendly analytics environment. It complements other QRC2 enhancements—particularly drag-and-drop chart creation—by ensuring that the underlying data experience is just as flexible as the visualization layer.

The result is a platform that is easier to adopt, easier to scale, and better suited for real-world analytics workflows.
